Measuring training impact on the job, not just satisfaction scores

Measuring training impact on the job, not just satisfaction scores

End-of-course surveys tell you whether people enjoyed the session. They rarely tell you whether anything changed when they returned to work.

Measure impact at three points: before the programme, a few weeks after it, and against the business indicator it was meant to move, such as error rates, handling times or sales conversion.

“Training changes behaviour only when the new skills are used on the job.”

From insight to action

Every article starts from a practical question our clients ask. We focus on what to measure, what to change and how to tell whether the change is working.

What to check before you commit

Confirm that the programme starts with a needs analysis, is delivered by practising experts, and sets measures you can track after the course.

  • Needs analysis before design
  • Practising experts as trainers
  • Results measured on the job

Use these ideas as a starting point, then adapt them to your own teams, processes and measures. If you want help applying them, our consultants can review your situation with you.
